Kent Refugee Help is supporting a benefit gig for End Deportations in solidarity with the Stansted 15, who have been convicted of terrorism for preventing a chartered flight carrying vulnerable asylum seekers for deportation from taking off. The sentencing hearing for these brave activists is in February at Chelmsford Crown Court. The conviction could result in a life sentence.
Laura Clayson, one of the 15, has a strong Whitstable connection. Her friends and family, together with progressive groups, have organised this solidarity benefit in support. Laura will be attending the benefit and making a short speech at about 8.40 pm. There will also be a speaker from Samphire refugee group. There will be a collection for End Deportations.
People will be gathering outside the court on the sentencing date. We have heard from End Deportations that the date for the hearing may change. We are waiting for an update.
Please show support by attending the benefit on Saturday 26 January from 7pm-11 pm at Whitstable Umbrella Centre, Oxford St, Whitstable.
